History

Sykesville has a charming historic downtown area with well-preserved buildings that date back to the 18th and 19th centuries. The town has worked to maintain the architectural integrity of these structures. The Sykesville Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which recognizes the historical significance of the town’s architecture and development.

Sykesville has a history tied to the railroad system. The town was a stop along the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, and remnants of the railroad history can still be seen, including the historic B&O Railroad Station.

Sykesville is located in Carroll County, Maryland, approximately 20 miles west of Baltimore and around 40 miles north of Washington, D.C. 

Transportation

Sykesville is easily accessible by major highways, including Maryland Route 32. The town’s proximity to both Baltimore and Washington, D.C., makes it part of the larger Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area.
